People in Nunavut will be able to enjoy the work of a Cambridge Bay artist on the cover of this year’s recently-issued Northwestel telephone directory.
The 2012-2013 Nunavut directories feature “Inuit women’s tall kamiks” by Shelly O’Gorman, who lives in Cambridge Bay with her spouse and two young children.
O’Gorman, 22, has lived most of her life in Cambridge Bay and Iqaluit, a Northwestel news release said.
O’Gorman, a student at Nunavut Arctic College’s maternity care and midwifery program in Cambridge Bay, previously won a national competition for a penciled art print showing Peary caribou.
“We are pleased to showcase the work of another talented artist from Nunavut on the telephone directory this year. We wish her great success in the future,” said Paul Flaherty, Northwestel’s president and chief executive officer, in the March 13 release.
Each year, Northwestel invites artists from across the North to create a work of art to be featured on the covers of the telephone directories in NWT, Nunavut and Northern British Columbia/Yukon.
The winning submissions then become part of the Northwestel permanent art collection and each winning artist receives $2,000.
You can learn more about the “The Community and Directory Cover Art” section of the Northwestel website.
