Investigators make second discovery of human remains at Creekside Village fire site
Nunavut’s chief coroner orders autopsy in Ottawa
Police confirmed early March 6 that forensic investigators at the site of the Feb. 26 fire at Creekside Village in Iqaluit made a second discovery of human remains March 4.
Nunavut’s chief coroner ordered the remains to be sent to Ottawa for an autopsy and positive identification.
On March 2, police made their first discovery of human remains at the Creekside fire site.
Police had earlier said two people believed to have been inside a rowhousing unit destroyed by the fire had gone missing.
The names of the victims will not be released until the Chief Coroner is satisfied a positive identification has been made, the March 6 RCMP news relase said.
The Iqaluit RCMP, the Nunavut fire marshall’s office and a special fire investigator continue their investigation into the fire that burned 22 row houses in Creekside Village and left 83 homeless.
