Iqaluit man faces 22 charges in relation to downtown break-ins
Man, 21, charged with break and enter, mischief and theft over $5,000
An Iqaluit man faces 22 charges in relation to a string of break-ins in Iqaluit’s downtown core earlier this month.
Josephie Ipelee, 21, appeared in Nunavut court in Iqaluit Oct. 30, facing charges of break and enter, mischief and theft over $5,000 related to four separate incidents.
The first in the series of break-ins is alleged to have occurred Sept. 29, when court documents detail a break-in at Iqaluit’s Sivummut building.
On Oct. 1, Ipeelie is alleged to broken into the same building, along with the nearby Wildlife, Geoscience and Public Works offices.
Again on Oct. 4, the accused is alleged to have broken into the same government offices.
In addition to break and enter charges, Ipeelie faces three charges of breaching a probation order.
Two weeks later, early Oct. 14, the accused is alleged to have broken into the Parnaivik building, and into a number of its offices, including ICE Wireless, the Nunavut Business Credit Corp., the GN’s Department of Finance and Uqsuq Corp.
And this time, the accused is alleged to have made off with thousands of dollars of stolen goods, which police said were mostly electronics and pieces of art.
Ipeelie faces four charges of break and enter, two charges of mischief, and one charge of theft over $5,000 related to the Oct. 14 incident.
Ipeelie faces four charges of breaching probation on Oct. 14.
Iqaluit RCMP were able to recover most of the items alleged to have been stolen from the Parnavik building, but warn Iqalungmiut to beware of the suspicious sale of any second-hand items.
