Iqaluit RCMP have confirmed an armed suspect used “what appeared to be a pistol” when he robbed a Quickstop convenience store on Apex Rd. Jan. 10.

“The suspect entered the store and produced what appeared to be a pistol at the counter,” the RCMP said in a Jan. 13 news release.

The suspect robbed the store at about 4:15 p.m. A store supervisor told Nunatsiaq News Jan. 12 that the suspect showed a “handgun” to the cashier to convince him to hand over cash from the register.

Police said witnesses describe the suspect as an Inuk male, between five feet, five inches and five feet, nine inches tall.

He “concealed his identity by wearing a white, red and black mask,” police said in the news release.

Police did not say how much was stolen and did not say if the suspect is an adult or a youth.

Police hope to identify the robber with the help of security video footage, Const. Malcolm McNeil told Nunatsiaq News.

The detachment is asking for the public’s assistance to identify the suspect, and is requesting tips that could help with their investigation at the detachment or through Crime Stoppers at
1-800-222-8477 (TIPS.)

People can also submit tips online.
