Last-minute gifts available at Iqaluit elders’ Christmas craft fair
Knitted hats, socks, mitts on offer Dec. 21, 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.
On Friday, Dec. 21, the Iqaluit Elders Qammak Society will hold a Christmas Craft Fair from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. at Building 226.
Napatchie McRae, the program coordinator for the society, said the elders have been working since April to create a bounty for tomorrow’s fair.
There will be a variety of products on offer: hats, socks, mitts, etc.
The group wanted to make products that will keep men, women, and children warm through the winter.
To keep things “affordable for a lot of people,” Mcrae said they avoided using more expensive furs. Instead, they knit.
For McRae, the fair is both an opportunity for a little last minute Christmas shopping, and an exercise in nostalgia.
“I used to get things like this for Christmas… not too fancy, not too expensive… and I still like that. I miss that.”
McRae said prices will range from about $5 to $60. There will be tea and coffee available.
