Nunasi hires new CEO
Iqaluit’s Archie Angnakak “is an enthusiastic individual…with a passion to help his fellow Inuit”
Nunasi Corporation has hired a new chief executive officer: Iqaluit’s Archie Angnakak.
The corporation’s board of directors announced Angnakak’s new role March 20, which he’ll officially begin May 1 at Nunasi’s head office in Iqaluit.
“Archie is an enthusiastic individual, who is a strong communicator with a passion to help his fellow Inuit,” said Wilfred Wilcox, chairperson of the corporation’s board of directors.
Wilcox called Angnakak’s extensive experience in the private, public and non-profit sectors a strong contribution to the corporation.
Over his career, Angnakak has served as chair of the Nunavut Trust, as a vice-president with the Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping Inc. and president of the Toonik Tyme society.
“The appointment of Archie is in line with our strategic direction to elevate our activity in Nunavut and strengthen our partnerships and alliances with other development corporations and businesses within Nunavut,” Wilcox said.
As CEO, Angnakak will report director to Nunasi’s board of directors. He joins president and chief operation officer Tim Zehr as a leader of Nunasi’s senior management team.
Nunasi Corp. is a 100 per cent Inuit-owned development corporation whose ownership is entrusted to the Nunasi board of trustees on behalf of Inuit beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
The new CEO position will play a critical role in building a strong relationship with beneficiaries and the business community in Nunavut, Wilcox said.
