The Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services will not renew the contract of executive director Jeannie May when it expires Sept. 7, the board said June 7 in a statement.
“The NRBHSS would like to thank Mrs. [sic] May for her services during her career with our organization,” the statement said.
May, along with Alasie Arngak, the chairperson of the board, has faced possible disciplinary action since December of 2011, when allegations of credit care misuse surfaced following an audit of the board’s finances done by a company called Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton.
“In response to a reference in the letter concerning the inappropriate use of credit cards, the board of directors will ask an independent third party to review the situation in order to ensure that, if necessary, corrective action is taken,” the board said Dec. 8, 2011, in a statement.
The firm contracted to do that review, BDO Canada LLP, presented a preliminary report to the board in February 2012.
Arngak has since departed as chairperson.
May, who left to go on maternity leave in November of 2011, was replaced temporarily by Larry Watt.
Watt departed the acting executive director position this past February, and was replaced by Gilles Boulet, the executive assistant to the executive director, who served in that position until April 26.
After that, Madge Pomerleau served as acting executive director.
She will now return to her former position as executive director of the Ungava Tulattavik Health Centre, and Boulet will again take over as acting executive director.
Meanwhile, the health board will begin a search for a new executive director.
