Nunavut commissioner withdraws from Steps of Hope walk

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I write this letter to my many caring supporters, Women in Action, my rock, family and friends.

As the start date for the Women in Action—Steps of Hope 2014 draws nearer day by day, it is only fair that I inform you that I too have been forced to withdraw from this “dear to my heart” venture due to a very sudden change in my personal health.

I was very recently diagnosed with a rare, incurable, but treatable lung disease.

This lung disease was happening for an unknown period of time before it flared up in January 2014, which caused me extreme shortness of breath, halting any and all forms of exercise and training.

I will be joining the walkers at the start and finish to take the Steps of Hope that I can — to make my contribution real.

I know that you all understand how much these fundraising walks for breast cancer research mean to me and that you will continue to follow the 2014 walk starting on April 30 from Rankin Inlet. Be with us in spirit!

Together with your help, we can make a difference and help find a cure for breast cancer.
