A Cape Dorset man faces several firearms charges after allegedly firing five to six shots in the early hours of May 1 at a residence in Cape Dorset.

No one was injured, the RCMP said in a May 3 news release.

Police responded to a call about the shots at about 2:30 a.m. May 1, the RCMP said.

At a residence, police found “damage consistent” with the complaint made to the local RCMP detachment.

Officers found a man, 35, outside the residence.

They obtained a search warrant, searching the residence where ammunition and firearms were seized.

Pitseolak Manning has been charged with careless use of a firearm, discharge of a firearm while being reckless, unauthorized use of a firearm and possession of a firearm contrary to an undertaking, the RCMP said.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The RCMP said further updates would be provided once more information became available.

Less than two weeks ago, also in Cape Dorset, police subdued a hostage-taker who threatened a four-year-old.

A Cape Dorset man, 21, now faces nine charges, including attempted murder, in connection with this incident.
