Members of the Nunavut RCMP seized drugs and firearms from a home in Taloyoak during weekend raid in the Kitikmeot community of about 900 people.

A Jan. 30 search at a local home turned up 25 grams of hash, cash and 12 “insecure” firearms, the Nunavut RCMP said in Feb. 1 release.

The hash was divided and packaged into 45 baggies, police said.

RCMP members arrested a 43-year-old man, who was later charged with drug trafficking and careless storage of a firearm.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court again April 27.

“The community of Taloyoak has identified illegal drugs as a priority for the Taloyaok RCMP,” police said in the Feb. 1 release.

“The RCMP wish to encourage the community to continue to report drug trafficking in Nunavut.”

Nunavummiut can report incidents to the RCMP by calling (867) 979-0123 or by contacting Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477.)

Trigger locks for firearms are also available free of charge at any Government of Nunavut office, police said.
