Members of the RCMP in Arctic Bay arrested a 22-year-old man for discharge of a firearm at a house in the community April 18, when he emerged from the residence to surrender to police after a three-and-a-half hour standoff.
Police responded to a complaint about a gunshot shortly after 11 a.m. that day, Nunavut RCMP spokesperson Yvonne Niego told Nunatsiaq News April 20.
The detachment dispatched two officers to surround the residence “to ensure security of the public,” Niego said.
Police isolated the suspect in the residence until he emerged just after 2:30 p.m., when the officers arrested him.
The RCMP reported no violence and no injuries occurred.
Police have not yet laid charges in the incident and are investigating, Niego said.
