All new schools built in Nunavut will have childcare centres attached to them, says Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak, who is also Nunavut’s education minister, to the Kitikmeot Inuit Association’s annual general meeting in Cambridge Bay. Aariak also told delegates that her government wants to train 300 new Inuit teachers and build more staff housing for teachers. Information discussed at the KIA meeting shows only four of the five child care centres in the Kitikmeot remain open, with the childcare centre in Taloyoak closed since 2007.
