Photo: Business, school partnership boosts skills in trades

Sondar Ikuutaq, a student at Baker Lake’s Jonah Amitnaaq secondary school, tries his hand at welding this week during Trades Awareness and Skills Knowledge or TASK week at the school. Students from Grades 10 to 12 take a break from their regular studies during TASK week to see what it might be like to work in a trade. This year, they got to choose from culinary arts, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, welding and hairdressing. TASK is offered through a partnership with Agnico Eagle Mines, which operates the nearby Meadowbank gold mine.
