Photo: City officials ask Iqalummiut to report loose dogs

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

City of Iqaluit municipal enforcement officials are asking residents to share any information about a Jan. 5 dog attack in the community, when an eight-year-old boy was approached by a loose dog outside of Nakasuk Elementary School. The boy got away with minor scratches, but the city is reminding Iqalummiut that domestic animal by-laws require owners to contain and license their dogs. Dog owners will be charged fines and fees if their unregistered loose dogs are picked up by by-law officers in the community, city officials said in a Jan. 9 public service announcement. Iqaluit residents should report loose dog sightings to 979-5650. (The dog in this picture is not the loose dog that Iqaluit bylaw officers are seeking information about.
