A platoon of Nunavut government officials gathered in Rankin Inlet Jan. 25 to cut the ribbon on Nunavut’s new territorial correctional centre. The $40-million, 48-bed jail, which the Government of Nunavut calls a “healing facility,” began accepting prisoners Jan. 10. Here, J.P. Delroy, the GN’s director of corrections and Chris Stewart, a project manager with the GN’s Department of Justice, hold a sealskin ribbon for Rankin Inlet MLAs Tagak Curley and Lorne Kusugak, along with Premier Eva Aariak, Justice Minister Daniel Shewchuck and Commissioner Edna Elias.
