Photo: Ice blocks fuel tanker’s departure from Rankin Inlet

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

A late-season delivery of fuel to Rankin Inlet is causing problems for the Woodward Group's tanker, the Dorsch. Recent temperatures dipping to -25 C caused the inlet to freeze. According to photographer Doug McLarty, the ship attempted to turn around late Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13, and appeared to be locked in. But overnight, the sounds of cracking ice echoed through town and by morning, the ship was gone, he said, having managed to bust through the ice to make its return journey south.
