She floats: After 85 years underwater, the Maud has risen. The ship that once belonged to Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen had been sitting off-shore of Cambridge Bay since it sank there in 1930. Over the last few weeks, the Norwegian crew working to bring the ship home had secured more than 40 airbags around and under the ship, which finally pushed the Maud above water mid-day July 30. Crew member Bjorn Myrann, pictured here, went for a swim to celebrate. Now the Maud will overwinter in Cambridge Bay where the shop will freeze dry before its journey home to Norway, planned for summer 2017. (PHOTO COURTESY OF MAUD RETURNS HOME)
