These polar bear-decorated kamiit, crafted by Iglulingmiut seamstress Leah Okadluk, are a skilled example of fur inlay, a technique used by Inuit seamstresses to create intricate patterns on clothing and footwear. Okadluk created the kamiit in 1987 for the Bata Shoe Foundation; today they are finally on display in Toronto at the Bata Shoe Museum’s newest exhibit called Art & Innovation: Traditional Arctic Footwear.
