Photo: Inuit college students take a break, head to the farm

Have ulu, will travel. Anna Churchill of Clyde River, a first-year student at the Nunavut Sivuniksavut college in Ottawa, displays the ulu she made at Harris Farm in early November. Churchill and her NS colleagues — there are 36 first-year students in the program this year — go to the rustic farm house near Lac Ste. Marie, Quebec, every year around this time to take a stress break from what can be an intensive first two months in the Inuit leadership program. Focusing on culture in a peaceful, quiet setting, students spend their time beading, making ulus, jewelry and drums, as well as performing. (PHOTO COURTESY OF NS)
