Photo: Kick at the darkness until it bleeds northern lights

A little dose of awesome aurora to brighten your Arctic January. Marg Epp, left, and Athlyne Etienne enjoy a spectacular display of northern lights near Cambridge Bay around 9:30 p.m. Dec. 22. It was around -30 C, clear and crisp, with no wind so perfect aurora viewing weather. The sun is expected to make its first 2017 appearance in Cambridge Bay on Jan. 11 but only for about 28 minutes. From then on, daylight hours in that western hub town will continue to grow until it shines for 24 hours, starting May 21. (PHOTO BY DENISE LEBLEU IMAGES)
