Vandals had scrawled the words “No Women President” and crossed out her name with red spray paint. But by lunchtime, someone had rubbed out the word “No,” leaving only “Women President.” Kilabuk said she does not know who defaced her sign. “I was shocked that somebody would do that, but I’m not surprised, when I think about how desperate some people are,” Kilabuk said. Told that “no” and the line through her name had been rubbed out later, the candidate laughed and said “that must be some of the women who were angry.” She added that, “I stand for being open, honest, and for transparency, and I have been campaigning that I will not tolerate violence against women and children.” (PHOTO BY PETER VARGA)
