Photo: My Second Grader

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

My Second Grader is a sculptural collage made of stone, caribou antler and plastic cord; each element is carved separately and then joined together to form one whimsical piece. The work was created by Cape Dorset artist Jamasee Padluq Pitseolak in honour of his father, Mark Pitseolak, who worked as a heavy machine operator, in addition to being a carver and a musician. This piece is on display until March 18, 2018, at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa as part of the fourth edition of the Canadian Biennial, which celebrates paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations acquired by the gallery since 2014.
