Family Services Minister and Netsilik MLA Jeannie Ugyuk resigned her seat in Nunavut's legislative assembly as of 5 p.m. Nov. 9. A by-election must be held within six months in Netsilik, which comprises Taloyoak and Kugaaruk. The news comes two days after Nunavut MLAs gave Ugyuk a vote of non-confidence after the assembly's mid-term leadership review Nov. 7. “In light of Saturday’s deliberations of the Nunavut Leadership Forum, I have determined that the needs of my constituents in Taloyoak and Kugaaruk would be best served by affording them the opportunity to elect a new member to serve in the legislative assembly,” Uqyuk said in a news release.
