Edna Elias, Commissioner of Nunavut, (left), accompanied by Resolute Bay mayor Tabitha Mullin (right), learns how a remote operated vehicle works during her visit to Resolute Bay for the April 25 closing ceremony of the Nunalivut 2012 spring exercise. “The Canadian Rangers are ambassadors of Canada’s North. I am extremely proud of the surveillance patrols the Canadian Rangers have conducted during Operation Nunalivut,” Elias said. “The Canadian Rangers used their knowledge of the land to work with other members of the Canadian Forces to ensure the safety of the North.” During Nunavlivut 2012, Canadian Rangers also conducted patrols, while Navy divers used the remote operated vehicle underwater to survey the wreck of HMS Breadalbane, a Franklin expedition rescue ship that sank in 1853.
