Team Nunavut placed a respectable 5th overall at the 2016 National Aboriginal Firefighter Competition hosted by the Six Nations of the Grand River near Hamilton, Ont., Aug. 10 to Aug. 14. Six firefighters were selected by their peers to represent the territory after participating in a local contest in Iqaluit earlier this month. “Nunavut firefighting teams have represented the territory very well at the national level and the competition has helped develop kinship within the Nunavut Fire Service,” Nunavut Fire Marshall, Robert Prima, said in a statement. Team Nunavut earned 260 points at the national event, just 20 points behind firefighters from Saskatchewan – Fond du Lac, who finished 3rd. Team Nunavut also received special recognition with the Max McNeill Award for Most Sportsmanlike Team, an honour bestowed to Nunavut for the 9th year in a row.
