Nunavut’s newest member of the legislative assembly, Pauloosie Keyootak, shows his oath of office certificate to fellow MLAs after he was sworn in Feb. 24 by Nunavut Commissioner Edna Elias, left, during a brief ceremony. MLAs applauded Keyootak, who earned his seat as representative for Uqqummiut in a by-election Feb. 9. The Qikiqtarjuaq resident, who once served as president of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, and as a hamlet councillor, said he considers his new job to be a “greater responsibility.” “This is where the Inuit leaders are,” he said. “I know it will be a little bit different, and I’m going to work hard on it.” The legislative assembly's fourth session is set to resume this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Keyootak took a seat left vacant by Samuel Nuqingaq, who was expelled from the assembly Oct. 24.
