Akeeagok by just 30 votes in the race for president of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association and James Eetooloolok was leading second place candidate Jesse Mike by about 500 votes in the NTI vice presidential election. At the end of the night, Mikidjuk finished only three votes ahead of second place finisher Pauloosie (PJ) Akeeagok, triggering a recount, and Eetoolook had won the NTI vice president's job.
