Photo: Long, bright, cold days means hockey on the pond

When the sun returns to the Arctic, it makes itself at home. Long, bright days are the norm now and the Arctic is alive with fishing, harvesting and sure, a little hockey on the pond, as these Cambridge Bay kids demonstrate. The sun rises around 5 a.m. in western Nunavut these days and goes down around 9 p.m. With sunny skies forecast, and daily high temperatures in the low minus teens expected for the weekend, it's likely this game of shinny will continue.
