Quebec launches anti-bullying contest for students
“Refuse to remain silent when confronted with bullying”
Nunavik students: what do you have to say about bullying and violence?
Quebec’s education minister wants to hear from you.
Line Beauchamp launched a new contest March 19 called Bullying, it’s so over. The department of education hopes to hear from the province’s elementary and secondary school students about any projects they’ve developed to counter bullying violence in their schools and communities.
To participate, students must submit a written summary of no more than 1,000 words or a video no longer than two minutes in length describing a project they have developed and carried out with the support of a school staff member and in connection with a bullying incident or situation experienced or witnessed by students.
This project must have had a positive impact on the students in the school and must promote values as respect and justice.
“By sharing your fine initiatives with students throughout Quebec, you will undoubtedly inspire many more to follow your example and to become ordinary heroes who refuse to remain silent when confronted with bullying,” said Beauchamp in a March 19 news release.
This contest is one component of the strategy to mobilize the province against bullying and violence, launched by the Quebec government last month.
The deadline for entering the contest is May 4, 2012.
Winners at the elementary school level will receive a cash reward of $3,500, while students at the secondary level can win $5,000.
