A Rankin Inlet woman is recovering in a Winnipeg hospital this week after suffering injuries inflicted in a major assault.
The RCMP said Nov. 20 that officers in Rankin Inlet responded to an incident at a residence, where they discovered the injured woman with a “faint pulse.”
The woman was treated at the local health centre, and later flown to Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. The woman is now listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The RCMP has since arrested a 26-year-old man. He now faces charges of aggravated assault and sexual assault as well as two counts of careless storage of a firearm.
The accused will appear in court next Feb. 15, 2016.
Rankin Inlet police have been busy in recent weeks. The RCMP said its members have responded to a string of break-ins at different locations in the community, including its learning centre, arena and some small businesses.
An 18-year-old now faces charges in relation to at least one of those incidents, the RCMP said, including break-and-enter, possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation.
The suspect was previously released on an undertaking for other break and enters, the RCMP said, and is now being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
