Remembering Sepora Kitikshimik Kumarluk of Umiujaq
I would like to express my and my siblings’ gratitude for the physical, spiritual and emotional care given to our mother Sepora Kitikshimik Kumarluk of Umiujaq, who went to be with the Lord on Oct. 2, 2011.
Loving care was given by our stepfather Willie, the nurses and doctors, family members and everyone who came to pray for and with her. She will be greatly missed, but we have to accept her death and move on because it will be our turn one day. We don’t know when, how or where and death can come unexpectedly.
I want to thank her only surviving older sister, Rynee Flaherty of Iqaluit, who came to attend her funeral with two of her beautiful granddaughters (daughters) Jane Flaherty Lambe and Lavinia Qiatsuk Flaherty, who she always talked about as we were growing up.
She would often mention that she has an older sister who was moved to the High Arctic (Grise Fiord) and her youngest brother, Jusipi Kitikshimik of Kuujjuaraapik, so there’s only the oldest and youngest of the family left.
She leaves nine adult children and many, many grandchildren and some great-grandchildren.
She was a caring, humorous, strong, loving woman and she no longer has to suffer any more physical pain and I believe she is in paradise.
Thank you.
