You might say the Grinch has struck the Nunavut community of Igloolik.
That’s because vandalism and theft means the Igloolik high school will remain closed for all after-hours activities, effective immediately — and until further notice, a Dec. 16 news release from the Nunavut RCMP said.
That includes activities planned over the Christmas holidays, police said.
Some 2,000 Nunavut residents, who call Igloolik home, would have participated in games and other activities at the high school.
According to the RCMP release, two youth, 14 and 15 years old, have been arrested in connection with damage to school property.
The cost of the theft and vandalism amounts to more than $10,000, police said, and includes stolen cash and extensive damage to office equipment and furniture.
“The investigation is still on-going and the Igloolik RCMP would like to thank the concerned citizens who assist in these types of investigations,” the release said.
