In loving memory of Sammy Qaumariaq

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

This is in loving memory of my oldest sister, Sammy Qaumariaq, who passed away Aug. 3, 2009

I just wanted to say a big thank-you to my niece, Evie Qaumariaq, who took care of her mom, my sister, for so long and never left her side until the day she passed.

Also, thanks to Leonie, my nephew Levi Qaumariaq’s wife, as she is such an awesome and great woman who was there for my sister Sammy. She is one awesome ukkuaq.

I also would like to say a big thanks to Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., who made it possible for me to come up, along with my sister, Jeannie Alainga.

I would also like to say a big thanks to all the people who gave support to my niece Evie and brought food to her place and provided support to the rest of the family.

I have so many more people to thank, but it is so hard to say the words, as I am still very feeling the lost of my sister who was just like a mother to me and a best friend and many more.

I miss you so much, and when I left Iqaluit on Sept. 4, it was the hardest thing to do, knowing I was leaving you and your grave and knowing I won’t see you again.

That is so so hard and makes me feel so empty and I don’t know anymore who will I call when I need to talk, as you were the only one I could really talk to and trust.

I have tears while writing this, as I had a dream last night. I dreamt that I could still call you and that would always try to comfort me.

I know you are watching over me and the rest of your loved ones, but I can’t get you off my mind, so I am asking God in front of everyone to give me strength and hope as I know you would not want me to feel this pain I am feeling.

I love you for ever and will never forget you. I will see you one day when the time is right.
