Amber Aglukark sworn in as newest Iqaluit councillor

Amber Aglukark, right, was sworn in as the newest member of Iqaluit city council Tuesday night. At left, Mayor Solomon Awa applauds as municipal clerk Tammy Ernst-Doiron collects the documents Aglukark signed as the rest of council looks on. Aglukark was selected to take on the role earlier this month in a council vote after a callout for applications. She replaces Jack Anawak, who resigned in the fall. To bad she is tied up in all this, not her fault…

But Iqaluit City Council should have brought in the voted for by the public in the last election. Or clearly stated WHY they were so against him. Did he do something bad?

How disappointing that Amber is part of this outrageous lack of democratic process.

Amber age ~34 (zero votes) is older than the most Democratic choice, Lewis age ~31 (525 votes) and the second most Democratic choice, Swany age ~28 (474 votes).

Why not run in the election if you want to be on council then? Hilarious to see the mayor clapping for her, why is he clapping? Must be doing it for himself, she never accomplished anything here.

Whynot instead of using destructive ways, being hand picked also mean greater challenge and an acknowledgement of potential to serve the community

Look on amber’s left and right, are those looks like inuit. For sure she will change her thoughts when she is in the office. Just like the social workers in kivalliq. They say they will help for what ever they have problem and they just use the computer and not follow their job that within 72 hours must be done that disability form and waited 3 months and not been seen. Is that what you guys think its normal. That worker black so he might think about the racism but when we say it they take action right away.
