Skating season is off to a start in Pond Inlet. On Monday, young people laced up their skates and took to this frozen surface when temperatures reached -6 C. (Photo by Norman Koonoo, special to Nunatsiaq News)
From a climate perspective, the best thing about living in Canada these past many, many years is early-season ice-skating on ponds. Great air temperature, great light; ice like a sheet of glass looking into the rocks and algae and a few fish frozen below if I’m lucky. I still chase and collect those days. Grab a stick and puck. Round up a few buds, kids. Heaven on Earth – which is the only place to find heaven anyhow.
A nice shallow pond, I trust?
