A woman in Iqaluit faces numerous charges including vehicle theft, fleeing from police and assaulting a peace officer after an incident that damaged a marked police cruiser and two other vehicles.
RCMP officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle Friday at about 5 p.m. They located the suspect vehicle, activated their own cruiser’s emergency lights and siren but the driver refused to pull over, the RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
Police tried several more times at various spots around the city to get the driver to pull over before the vehicle was finally stopped near Iqaluit’s baseball diamond and the driver was arrested.
A police cruiser and two other vehicles were damaged during the incident, police said.
Jolene Padluq, 18, faces a string of charges including robbery, assault, two counts of assaulting a peace officer, theft of motor vehicle, dangerous operation, failure to stop after an accident and fleeing a police officer.
No serious injuries were reported from the incident, police said.
Padluq was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Iqaluit court on Aug. 21.

Well done, officers of the RCMP. Despite the injury to one of your own, you probably saved the lives of any number of innocent others.
