Author Kenn Harper, who writes the Taissumani history column in Nunatsiaq News, is releasing his new book, Give Me Winter, Give Me Dogs: Knud Rasmussen and the Fifth Thule Expedition, later this month.

Harper’s book is a look into Greenlandic-Danish polar explorer Knud Rasmussen’s voyage across the Canadian Arctic from 1921 to 1924 to study Inuit and document their stories.

A book launch is scheduled for Nov. 4 in Ottawa at Perfect Books at 258A Elgin St. at 7 p.m. Published by Inhabit Media, the book is set to be in stores in mid-November but orders can be placed on online booksellers’ sites now.

Harper wrote extensively in 2021 about the Fifth Thule Expedition in his biweekly column — the centennial of the expedition.

When he introduced the series of columns, Harper wrote that the expedition “deserves to be celebrated, and northerners should know about its work and its accomplishments.”
