Cell and internet service restored to Kugluktuk after 2-day outage
Telecommunications went down on the morning of July 7
Cellphone and internet services have been restored to Kugluktuk after a nearly two-day outage.
Service dropped on the morning of July 7, leaving many in the hamlet of approximately 1,500 without a connection to the internet or the ability to make phone calls.
There is no indication of vandalism or intentional damage to Northwestel’s equipment, Kugluktuk RCMP Const. Karl Szkwarek said on Monday.
Northwestel declined to comment on the outage and directed media inquiries to its parent company Bell Media.
Bell confirmed the outage in an email Tuesday.
“A technician was on site yesterday [Monday] and service is now restored. We apologize for the inconvenience,” said Patricia Garcia, manager public affairs, in the email.
In September 2022, Kugluktuk lost cell service for days after someone broke into a secured location and damaged a satellite dish.
2 days without internet , talk about going cold turkey.
The online gambling sites must have been wondering where all their customers went.
Funny how it seems to be life threatening now a days without internet.
