After a week of snowy and windy days, Iqaluit residents lined the streets Saturday afternoon for the city’s annual Santa Claus Parade.

With temperatures around -12 C, kids wearing fox fur-lined snowsuits slid down the mounds of snow that had piled up from the week’s heavy snowfall while they waited to catch a glimpse of Santa.

The parade started at the Arctic Winter Games Arena at 1 p.m. and slowly made its way to Nakasuk School, the sun setting as it arrived.

It included vehicles from the RCMP, fire department, Pirurvik Centre, École des Trois Soleils, and more.

Firefighters also handed out candy to those lined up on the snowy curbs.

Festivities were briefly stopped when a bus that wasn’t part of the parade sank into a ditch near Inuksuk High School.
