Explosion on ship near Baker Lake under investigation
Newfoundland-based oil tanker was receiving kerosene when explosion occurred; no injuries reported

A cargo tank explosion on a ship that was working near Baker Lake is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
Investigators have been deployed to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., where the Kivalliq W. vessel is currently docked, the safety board announced Wednesday.
On Oct. 15, the 145-metre-long Kivalliq W. reported a cargo tank explosion on board while the ship was receiving kerosene from another vessel in the water near Baker Lake. No fire or injuries were reported.
The Kivalliq W., an oil and chemical tanker, is owned by Newfoundland-based Coastal Shipping Ltd., which operates a fleet of oil tankers in the Canadian Arctic, according to the company’s website.
