Production has started for the second season of Inuit-led TV comedy North of North, cast members said in a celebratory video announcement on social media Tuesday.

The series is set in the fictional Nunavut community of Ice Cove. It follows the exploits of Siaja, played by Iqaluit actress Anna Lambe, as she attempts to build a new life in her small Arctic community.

The first season proved popular among viewers and critics after its Canadian debut on CBC and APTN in January 2025 and its worldwide release on Netflix last April.

North of North is produced by Red Marrow Media and Northwood Entertainment. The start of production on season 2 was announced jointly by series distributors Netflix, CBC and APTN in a news release Tuesday.

The first season received a rare 100 per cent Fresh rating on popular online film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. It was the most-watched new series on CBC Gem, the Canadian national broadcaster’s streaming service, and debuted at No. 9 on Netflix’s global top 10 for English-language releases in its first week.

It also broke individual top 10 most-viewed lists in 33 countries with nearly nine million viewings between April and June.

The show was created by Inuit filmmakers Stacey Aglok MacDonald, of Kugluktuk, who produced The Grizzlies, and Iqaluit’s Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, who produced Angry Inuk. Both are also producers and writers for North of North.

Filming is just starting in Toronto and Iqaluit with production expected to continue until April, the release from the distributors said. Currently, there is no firm start date for the second season but fans should expect something later in 2026.
