A former Kinngait RCMP officer faces two counts of sexual assault for incidents alleged to have occurred while he was posted to the community’s detachment.
The Nunavut RCMP announced the charges against Edward George Zacher Tuesday in a news release.
Zacher is described in the news release as a “former” Nunavut RCMP officer. It’s unclear if the 49-year-old remains a member of the force outside the territory.
The charges stem from 2023. The news release does not say when or where Zacher was arrested, but that he has been released from custody.
Zacher’s first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 18 in Iqaluit.
