Family wellness offices in Taloyoak and Gjoa Haven will close temporarily from Jan. 4 to 9, the Department of Family Services announced on Wednesday.

Gjoa Haven’s family wellness office has been closed since Dec. 7

The closures are due to staff shortages at each location, Family Services spokesperson Anthony Canny said in a news release.

“During the temporary closures, there will be no community social service workers available in either community,” he said.

Residents are advised that calls will continue to go to the family wellness office in the affected communities, but there will be delays while the offices are closed.

Other family wellness offices in Kugaaruk have been closed since mid-November and aren’t expected to reopen until Jan. 10.

Service reductions or closures are subject to change based on staff availability, Canny said.
