The Government of Nunavut is ranked as one of Canada’s top 100 employers for young people for the seventh year in a row, Human Resources Minister Margaret Nakashuk said Tuesday in the legislative assembly.
First published in 2002, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is a competition organized by the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
The designation recognizes employers that offer the best workplaces and programs for young people just starting their careers.
The GN was also recognized as one of Canada’s best diversity employers for the third year in a row, Nakashuk said.
“These awards are a testament to the exceptional work and commitment the Government of Nunavut has made to Tunnganarniq — creating a welcoming and inclusive work environment for employees,” she said.
Competition organizers said on their website that the GN made the list for increasing the representation of Inuit in government, participating in the Financial Internship Program which offers experience in finance and accounting-related fields, managing the Amaaqtaarniq Education program to help remove barriers to post-secondary education for eligible Inuit employees and offering the Hivuliqtikhanut Leadership Development program, an 18 to 21-day modular series that focuses on the development of behavioural and technical competencies of emerging leaders, supervisors, and senior managers, among other reasons.

😂 😴
Thats because the GN will hire just about anyone. there are 80K/year jobs at the schools teaching (Substituting or Letter of Authority) that you dont need a high school diploma.
This simply isn’t true; GN is not a ‘Top 100 Employer’ by any metric or in any category unless the category has less than one hundred potential candidates for the ranking.
For example, GN would be in the top one hundred employers of a ranking of ‘Provinces and Territories in Canada”
Why would the GN be proud of being the #1 employer of individuals fresh out of university, with no experience and no idea what they’re doing?
Also #1 for people resigning after 1 or 2 years and getting a job down south
maybe I got this wrong. I looked at the web site and yes it says the GN made some sort of top 100 list. it does not says where it ranked within that 100 list. also it does not state the criteria used to make it onto this list. all and all it appears to be quite arbitrary and used the HR to bolster some illusionary claim to competency.
Of course. Where else can you get an 80k job with no experience?
So, here’s the thing. The GN applied for this. They checked all the boxes, got managing staff to write explinations after said box, and then paid the application fee. Then, the DM and the Director of Policy went and got their picture taken, and craft the wording as if they were chosen randomly because of their amazing 60% capacity and Peter Principle career development planning.
It’s like being a terrible driver, but you wrote the driving exam and passed the theory but absolutely cannot apply theory to action. Should the GN be driving? Nope. But hey. They passed the test.
The government of Nunavut is one of the most corrupt, racist and toxic workplaces I have and likely will ever have experienced. The promotion of “yes-men” rather than anything being based on merit is all encompassing.
Harassment is condoned if not promoted and there are zero repercussions for those carrying out the harassing. The Nunavut employees union is an absolute joke and does not stand up for their employees. They just take your money and hide in their offices.
If you are considering moving to Nunavut to work for the Government of Nunavut please don’t.. save yourself the trouble as you will not be valued and will be constantly let down. The wages aren’t even competitive anymore and that is all it had going for it as an organization. Especially when compared to the cost of living in that place. Best decision I ever made was leaving. Never been happier.
