Hall Beach voters choose Jaypeetee Audlakiak as mayor
Candidate wins with 35.5 per cent of votes cast in Feb. 10 byelection, with turnout of only 33 per cent

In a byelection held on Monday, Feb. 10, at the community’s hamlet council chambers, Jaypeetee Audlakiak has been elected mayor of Hall Beach.
Audlakiak won 49, or 35.5 per cent, of the 138 votes cast in the byelection to win the position against five other candidates.
Voter turnout was 33 per cent.

Jayko Simonie had been elected mayor of Hall Beach in the Oct. 28 round of municipal elections across Nunavut, but vacated the position soon after, triggering the need for a byelection.
