Hilda Snowball has been unanimously re-elected as chairperson for the Kativik Regional Government in a vote by regional council.

This will be her second three-year term as top executive at KRG, the representative authority for Nunavik.

Snowball, from Kangiqsualujjuaq, was first elected in 2022 to succeed Jennifer Munick-Watkins, who did not seek re-election after serving two terms.

In her role, Snowball chairs the executive committee, a decision-making body whose members are elected from within the regional council. She also serves as the spokesperson for KRG.

In a news release Tuesday, Snowball said she intends to address important issues such as renegotiating a new cost-of-living agreement with the Quebec government. The current multi-year deal expires in 2025.

She also pointed to renegotiating the Sivunirmut Agreement, which covers block funding the government provides to KRG, as well as improving service of KRG programs as priorities.

The council also unanimously elected Mary Arngaq, of Kangiqsujuaq, as vice-chairperson. Prior to her election, she was the Pingualuit National Park director.

“I pledge to do my best to provide counsel and support to the executive committee so that our decisions provide Nunavimmiut with renewed opportunity to experience the progress and well-being they deserve,” Arngaq said in the release.

In addition to Snowball and Arngaq, other members elected to the five-person executive committee were Kuujjuaraapik Mayor Raymond Mickpegak, Maggie Emudluk of Kangiqsualujjuaq, and Minnie Annahatak of Kangirsuk.

KRG opened its final meetings for this year on Monday and they are expected to wrap up Thursday.

Will they also be investigating the NUNAVIK REGIONAL BOARD and HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICE and their 2 large hospitals and 12 smaller clsc nursing stations, social services and youth protection in the lack of professionalism show towards the Inuit of NUNAVIK who are being abused by these entities?

No, these people have absolute no control over governing the region, just a picture frame, what will really happen is the people behind the portrait that will rule once again

The party continues. Coop bear sales, hotel nights, trips to heavenly Montreal, . Pawns on the board of life waste of good money that could help Inuit get housing and a better life continues down the drain , with urine from nights of drinking. The smell of alcohol in the morning at the meeting.
