City of Iqaluit restores services after blizzard forced their suspension
Blizzard conditions eased Sunday morning, recovery begins
Emergency vehicles and other city vehicles in Iqaluit were back on the road Sunday morning after having been pulled Saturday night as blizzard conditions hit the city.
At 7 a.m., the city announced that services had been restored, including trucked water delivery, sewage management and garbage collection.
Normal business hours were resumed at recreational facilities.
On Saturday night, the City of Iqaluit announced it was suspending its emergency services for the night, and would only be responding to “critical calls.”
Trucked water and sewer services were also suspended, and recreation facilities were closed.
This city also warned that further service suspensions may occur.
Caribou Cabs shut down its services at 10 p.m., the company announced in a Facebook post.
Environment Canada placed Iqaluit under a blizzard warning with conditions expected to continue into Sunday morning.
Its forecast said to expect five to 10 centimeters of snow, and winds reaching 60 to 80 km/h.
Saturday started out in Iqaluit with a mix of sun and clouds. Into the evening, winds picked up and visibility diminished on the roads.

Trucked services and emergency services were off the road. Curious to know what further “service suspensions” means. Does anyone know? They used to just say that plows, etc were suspended and asked everyone to stay off the roads. I found that much simpler and more helpful than this new system.
“Due to worsening conditions, emergency services are being pulled from the roads and will only respond to critical calls at this time.” what would further service suspensions mean? That Emergency Services cannot respond to critical calls either……. Just read the PSA…
