Iqaluit firefighters raised more than $2,200 for cancer research on Monday through their Walk for the Cure.
The City of Iqaluit called the event a “resounding success” Wednesday in an announcement.
The majority of the funds, $1,600, was collected in an online campaign. Firefighters also took it upon themselves to use part of their statutory holiday, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to host the walk and raised an additional $680.
Between 200 to 300 people participated in the event, where groups had the option of walking or running one kilometre or five kilometres for charity.
Volunteers also did face painting and hosted a bake sale and the service’s fire engines were on display for the public to explore.
The City of Iqaluit thanked the firefighters and the public on Wednesday for their hard work.
