Iqaluit residents can drop off their hazardous waste at the air base garage, building 621, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City of Iqaluit announced Monday.
“The public is encouraged to take advantage of the hazardous waste collection day by coming out and safely disposing of these unwanted or unusable items,” the announcement said.
Items that will be accepted include antifreeze, adhesives, aerosols, automotive and household batteries, cleaners, corrosives, fuels, mercury, oxidizers, poisons, paint cans and spray paint, pharmaceuticals and solvents, according to the announcement.
The city will not accept electronics waste, used oil, oil filters, oil containers, tires, propane tanks, biological waste, infectious waste, radioactive waste, explosives, ammunition or industrial waste.
Residents are asked to not remove labels from the waste so that it’s easier to identify and avoids the need to test the substances.
