The Iqaluit landfill will temporarily stop accepting scrap metal from the public later this month due to safety concerns, the city announced Thursday in a news release.
The scrap metal site at the landfill will be closed to the public for a month, from June 15 to July 13, to allow metal crushing work to be done.
The landfill will not accept any scrap metal, appliances or vehicles during this time.
Residents are advised to drive with caution near the landfill as heavy equipment will be working in the area.
The landfill’s scrap metal site will reopen for public drop-off on July 14, but residents should expect another closure in August or September.
The month-long ban on scrap metal disposal follows an earlier ban that was in place from April 19 to May 3.

There are lots of spots in town to dump your scrap metal.
That big lot across from Northmart
That big lot across from the elders center and in front of the school.
That big parking lot in front of the old municipal offices.
All good temporary spots for theunicipaly
All good spots for the municipality to pick lt up and plan ahead for next year
